Commenting on blogs has always been a tricky subject.

I very rarely comment on blogs. Not that I hate commenting on other’s blogs. Just that I simply don’t have the time to do so. It is so time consuming to find what is relevant and what is not.

But here’s the thing though – If you find an article that is very relevant to your topic of interest, it definitely makes a lot of sense to go to that article and comment. There are several advantages of commenting on someone else’s article. I am listing a few here.

  • Comments get you link juice – Meaning you get links back to your site from those blogs, provided the moderator approves your comment. Initially I didn’t understand how relevant this was, but makes a lot of sense.
  • Comments help you increase your online social circle – This helps a lot in the long run esp. you are getting into internet marketing and related activities.
  • Comments, when in context, adds a different perspective and encourages healthy discussion. If you really look at it the whole of twitter and facebook is built around its members commenting on each other. Very powerful
…and there are more but I will not get into it. You get  the point, right ? So, now the question is what should you comment and how should you comment on other people’s blogs or articles.  We often miss the point.  This article by Grammar Girl explains it very well.

And oh yes – The video also explains what you shouldn’t do while commenting, in an incredibly hilarious way. Watch it!
