I very rarely comment on blogs. Not that I hate commenting on other’s blogs. Just that I simply don’t have the time to do so. It is so time consuming to find what is relevant and what is not.

But here’s the thing though – If you find an article that is very relevant to your topic of interest, it definitely makes a lot of sense to go to that article and comment. There are several advantages of commenting on someone else’s article. I am listing a few here.

Comments get you link juice – Meaning you get links back to your site from those blogs, provided the moderator approves your comment. Initially I didn’t understand how relevant this was, but makes a lot of sense.

Comments help you increase your online social circle – This helps a lot in the long run esp. you are getting into internet marketing and related activities.

Comments, when in context, adds a different perspective and encourages healthy discussion. If you really look at it the whole of twitter and facebook is built around its members commenting on each other. Very powerful

…and there are more but I will not get into it. You get the point, right ? So, now the question is what should you comment and how should you comment on other people’s blogs or articles. We often miss the point. This article by Grammar Girl explains it very well.

And oh yes – The video also explains what you shouldn’t do while commenting, in an incredibly hilarious way. Watch it!

1. Write down your ideas.
There are so many articles out there about the same thing, coming up with original content is hard but invaluable. You can come up with ideas for useful and new content on your own but you need to write them down. For this you can carry around a notepad everywhere you go because you never know when inspiration will strike.

2. Add a personal touch.
Write some of your articles as though you are teaching from experience. Use examples from your life and experience that you think would be useful to the reader. This will create a sense of relatability between the reader and you. This will then turn into trust and into more clicks for your links.

3. Use simple language
Don’t use too many complex and less used words. You don’t want to send your reader to the dictionary just to understand what you are saying. The point of writing an article is to communicate what you have to say and the reader needs to understand it.

4. Base your article off of facts.
Don’t make up statistic in your article. Back it up with actual facts and research if you are going to put in numbers. Of course if you are talking about experiences in your own life it would already be a fact.

5. Make it a habit
Write articles often. This will make you a better writer and give you a better chance of attracting traffic to your site. Here are some guidelines to follow that will give you an advantage when using article writing to market our product online.

1. Not being frequent

If you have started blogging, then pick up a frequency and stick to it. If you don’t maintain your frequency, might as well forget about blogging.

2. Not responding to comments

Not responding to comments by readers who have taken the effort to post comments is the biggest mistake that you can commit. Its more like saying “no service after sales” – and you know what happens, then

3. Blogging only for money

If you are blogging only for money, then you’re in for a shock. Yes, you can make good money through blogging but if you are not passionate about what you write, then you are in for some very unpleasant surprises.

4. Not reaching out to other bloggers

You are writing articles continuously. But there are several hundreds like you in the blogosphere. If you don’t reach out to them, they will never reach out to you. Go get them !

5. Being in a hurry

Don’t be in a hurry to publish as soon as you hear about an idea or a news story. You might forget your basics before you publish it.

6. Not writing for people

It’s great being strategic, having a lot of keywords in the blog. But if you are not writing for the people, then you are not “connecting”. Write for people, not for Google !

7. Not being personal

If your articles don’t give a personal touch, then readers might shy away from it. Remember we bloggers are not a CNN , FOX or WSJ . People would read our article for our opinion and our point of view. Give it to them !

8. Stop being a copycat

There are plenty who talk about the same idea. How different are you is what counts. Never ever copy. Period !

Now that you’ve read the 8 common mistakes, time to reflect upon. It is never too late to start writing but always keep the above in mind.

Happy Blogging !!!

The title is a snapshot of your article in one small sentence. Below are the five key aspects of choosing the right title

1. Your article title should build interest and it should be motivating to read.

2. As soon as the reader reads the title, he should get an idea as to what is coming next and within a few seconds he should be able to understand that you’ve given justice to the title

3. Never try to overpromise and under deliver. You might loose loyalty

4. A short title is good if you can define your article in a concise manner. If you are new to writing articles, always start with long titles. You’ll observe that as you gain experience, you will know exactly where to cut the fluff.

5. Lastly, make it catchy.

Ask yourself: “Does my article body deliver on the promise made in my article title?”

When you can answer that question with an absolute “YES!”, you know you have the makings of an excellent article.
